Milka Presents New Products and New Packaging
Arla Foods launches Milka brand chocolate milk drinks in Germany, Austria, and Poland. The confectionery manufacturer Mondelēz is also testing chocolate bars in paper packaging.
The European dairy cooperative Arla Foods wants to drive its growth in the mixed milk drinks category with the Milka brand. The Mopro Group has entered into a license agreement with brand owner Mondelēz. It covers the production, distribution, and marketing of chocolate milk drinks in Germany, Austria, and Poland. The dairy giant particularly emphasizes the high level of awareness and consumer loyalty to the Milka brand, which is already emblazoned on ice cream, cakes, and other baked goods, among other things.
“Milka is a popular brand and I know that we have the production, commercial, and marketing expertise to take it to the next level. That’s why our goal is clear: we want to be number 1 or 2 in our launch markets”, says Patrik Hansson, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Arla Foods.
Clive Jones, President Central Europe and EU Central Sales at Mondelēz International, says: “We are delighted to announce the launch of the new Milka chocolate milk in partnership with Arla. This collaboration allows us to extend the much-loved Milka brand across Europe and to offer consumers an exciting new way to enjoy their favorite chocolate. As we continue to innovate and develop our portfolio, this new category represents a significant milestone in Milka’s success story.”
Milka chocolate milk was launched in June 2024 and is available in three different pack sizes and flavors. The milk is available in 220 ml cups, 250 ml PET bottles, and in cartons (750 ml). It is produced at the Esbjerg dairy in Denmark.
Arla Foods is an international dairy company owned by more than 8,400 farmers in Denmark, Sweden, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands.
Paper Packaging for Alpine Milk Chocolate
Further product changes are currently in the pipeline for the confectionery giant Mondelez: Milka is testing new paper packaging for its chocolate bar portfolio. Thusly, since July, a limited quantity of the standard Milka Alpine Milk chocolate bar has been available in participating Edeka stores and at Netto Marken-Discount. The packaging is made of FSC-certified paper and has a minimal coating to protect the chocolate, according to the manufacturer. The packaging can be disposed of in the waste paper garbage can.
“We are excited to start this test phase”, says Alexander Nordloh, Marketing Director Chocolate at Mondelēz International. “Our aim is to use packaging that protects our chocolate, delights Milka fans, and protects the environment. That’s why we are constantly pursuing our sustainability goals with our Milka brand. With this limited edition, Milka fans can enjoy the familiar quality and delicate taste of Milka Alpine Milk chocolate in paper.”
More Sustainable Packaging
The test is part of Mondelēz International’s agenda for more sustainable packaging solutions. This includes the optimization of packaging, for example by way of material reduction, and the use of innovative solutions to achieve the long-term goal of promoting a circular economy for packaging. “For us at Mondelēz International, it is important to understand how we can optimally develop our packaging in terms of sustainability”, says Lena Berkemeyer, Senior Brand Manager for Sustainability at Mondelēz International.
